The town is located about 20 kilometers east of the downtown area of Riveria, and is an important transportation hub from the Nicoya Peninsula to the interior.
Filadelfia is situated in a tropical wet and dry seasonal climate zone, with an average annual temperature of about 28°C, and a rainy season from May to November and a dry season from December to April. The surrounding landscape is dominated by hills and plains, with extensive agricultural land, making it an important agricultural production base for Costa Rica.
The region's economy is dominated by agriculture, with an abundance of tropical crops such as sugar cane, mango and watermelon, and a relatively developed livestock industry. In recent years, ecotourism has been gradually developed, and there are several nature reserves in the surrounding area, where visitors can experience activities such as coffee plantation tours and ecological hiking.
Philadelphia retains a strong Latin American rural flavor, and most of the local residents rely on agriculture to make a living, with a gentle pace of life. The annual agricultural festival held at the end of the rainy season attracts people from the surrounding area and showcases the unique culture of northern Costa Rica.
