Miercurea Ciuc is the capital of Harghita County, Romania, located in the eastern part of the Transylvania region, nestled in a basin surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains. The city is an important center of Hungarian culture in Romania, with a core of Hungarian Székéi culture and more than 80% of its inhabitants of Hungarian origin.
The name of the city means "Wednesday market", which comes from the historical market held here every Wednesday.
