Maldelen is a municipality in the province of East Flanders in the Flanders Region of Belgium, located in the northwestern part of the country, near the historic city of Ghent. The region is known for its peaceful countryside and rich cultural heritage, with typical Flemish architecture and idyllic landscapes.
Maldrum covers an area of about 55 square kilometers and has a population of about 18,000 people. The terrain is flat, interspersed with rivers and has a temperate maritime climate with four distinct seasons. It is strategically located only about 15 kilometers from Ghent and is easily accessible by public transportation.
The local economy is dominated by agriculture and small businesses, with traditional cheese making and animal husbandry prominent. Maldrum retains a number of medieval churches and farmsteads and hosts an annual village festival to attract visitors to experience the traditional Flemish way of life.
Visitors can experience the idyllic Low Countries by visiting the church of St. Barth, the old windmill and the countryside museum. The area is also ideal for cycling and hiking, along which you can enjoy the typical Flemish landscape of canals intertwined with pastures.
