Santiago de Baney is a coastal town in the north of the island of Bioko, Equatorial Guinea, located about 20 kilometers from the capital city of Malabo, in the province of Bioko. With a predominantly tropical rainforest climate and a rich surrounding natural ecology, it is one of the most important agricultural and fishing areas in Equatorial Guinea, producing cash crops such as cocoa and coffee, and with the fishery resources of the Gulf of Guinea, the local fishing industry is relatively active. As a small town in the western part of Equatorial Guinea, Santiago de Bani combines the traditions of the local Fang and other tribes with the cultural imprints of the Spanish colonial period, and its official language is Spanish, with most of the local residents practicing Catholicism. Despite its small size, its unique location and ecological environment make it a window into the culture and nature of rural Equatorial Guinea.
