Abbottabad is an important city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the northern part of the country at an altitude of about 1,260 meters. Founded in 1853 and named after James Abbott, a British colonial official, the city has a mild climate and beautiful scenery, and is known as "Pakistan's Little England". It is the administrative, educational and commercial center of the region and has natural attractions such as Ayub National Park.
Strategically located about 110 kilometers from the capital city of Islamabad, Abbottabad is the gateway to Kashmir and the northern mountains. Historically a British colonial military post, it became globally famous in 2011 for the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The city retains colonial architecture, such as St. Luke's Church, which blends tradition with modernity.
The economy is based on agriculture, tourism and small-scale industry, with an abundance of fruits and vegetables. The area is dominated by the Pashtun culture, with a simple folklore and excellent educational facilities, with renowned institutions such as the Pakistan Military Academy. Abbottabad is a popular destination for trekkers and history explorers, attracting both domestic and international tourists.
