Introduction to Bir Moghlan, Mauritania
Bir Moghlan (Boutilimit) is a historic city in southwestern Mauritania, about 150 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Nouakchott, in the province of Terrazza. Located on the edge of the Sahara Desert, the city enjoys a hot, dry, predominantly tropical desert climate with large temperature differences between day and night. A traditional center of Islamic culture, Bir Moghlan has an ancient mosque and scripture school, once an important hub for religious learning and knowledge dissemination, and still retains an architectural style that is a fusion of Berber and Arab traditions.
