Samoa Gatavai is not an independent country, but the name of a traditional village in the South Pacific island nation of Samoa. Samoa is located in the center of the Polynesian Islands, consisting of the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii and seven small islands. The village of Gatavai typifies the traditional Samoan cultural system of Faa Samoa, with core values of family community, collective work and respect for elders.
Kataivai retains the traditional Samoan "faale" (thatched roof) and is surrounded by coconut groves, volcanic landscapes and coral reefs. Common village rituals include kava ceremonies, tattooing (tatau) and the song and dance show "Siva". The economy is based on subsistence agriculture, growing breadfruit, taro and coconuts, with the coastal areas dependent on fishing. The local language is Samoan, with English widely spoken.
Visitors can experience village homestays, participate in handicraft activities such as weaving and wood carving, or visit nearby natural attractions such as the natural swimming pools of the Sua Trench and the waterfalls of Toga Gorge. Samoa has a visa-free policy for Chinese citizens and the best time to travel is during the dry season from May to October. Gataiwai represents the original community culture of Oceania and is a quintessential destination for exploring the traditional lifestyle of the South Pacific.
