Tiger Bay, Angola is not an independent country or city, but a famous bay located in Bengo Province, Republic of Angola. Its name comes from the Portuguese translation of "Tiger Bay", which actually has nothing to do with tigers, but is historically named after the bay's resemblance to a tiger's mouth.
Tiger Bay is located on the Atlantic coast about 70 kilometers north of Luanda, the capital of Angola, with crescent-shaped golden sandy beaches and crystal clear water. The bay is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and a typical mangrove ecosystem, making it an important habitat for migratory birds.
During the Portuguese colonial period in the 16th century, Tiger Bay was a transit point for the slave trade. It is now an important fishing port in Angola, rich in lobster and sea fish. In recent years, based on the natural resources of the beach, it has gradually developed the tourism industry, with the construction of resorts and water sports facilities.
Tourists can experience the traditional fishing boats, watch dolphins and visit the remains of the colonial fortress. Whale watching is popular from August to October, and local seafood cuisine (especially charcoal-grilled lobster) is popular with international tourists. The best time to travel is during the dry season from May to September.
