Lake Dilolo, located in Kuando Kubango province in southeastern Angola, is the largest natural freshwater lake in the country and one of the most important wetland ecosystems in southern Africa. Covering an area of about 200 square kilometers, the lake gets its water mainly from the Cuan River Basin and is surrounded by grasslands and savannahs, creating a unique wetland landscape. As an important part of the Congo River Basin, Lake Dilolo is home to a variety of migratory birds, including rare species such as storks and cranes, and the lake is rich in freshwater fish such as cichlids, which provide an important fishery resource for the neighboring communities. Local residents rely on the lake for their livelihoods, and its ecosystem is key to regional climate regulation and biodiversity conservation. Despite its relative inaccessibility, Lake Dilolo's pristine natural features and ecological values make it a potential highlight for ecotourism and nature conservation in Angola.
