Introduction to Angola's Xionggoroi

Chongoroi is a municipal district of the Angolan province of Benguela, located in the west of the country, about 130 kilometers from the provincial capital, the city of Benguela. The region's main economic pillars are agriculture and animal husbandry, with crops such as maize, beans and cassava, as well as being an important cattle and sheep breeding area.

Geographical and climatic characteristics

Xionggoroi is located in the transition zone between the Angolan coastal plain and the inland plateau, with the terrain dominated by hills and grasslands. The climate is tropical grassland, with distinct dry and rainy seasons, and the average annual temperature is about 24℃. The Cuvel River and other water systems flow through the territory, providing an important source of water for agricultural production.

History, Culture and Population

The local population is predominantly of the Ovindu ethnic group, which has retained its traditional tribal culture and farming practices. During the Portuguese colonial period, an agricultural settlement was established here, and after independence, the area gradually developed into a distribution center for agricultural products in the southwest of Angola. The population of about 50,000 people is based on small-scale farming.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economy is based on subsistence farming, but in recent years the government has promoted the development of cash crops such as coffee and palm cultivation. Transportation is provided by the EN100 highway connecting Benguela to Namibe province, and there is no rail access. Health and education facilities are basic, serving mainly rural communities.
