The city boasts the largest amusement park in Northern Europe, Risøben Amusement Park, the Gothenburg Art Museum and the Gothenburg Archipelago, a World Heritage Site. The Gothenburg Film Festival and one of the largest book fairs in Europe are held annually. The famous Old Town neighborhood of Haga retains its 19th-century log cabin architecture, while the Linnaeus Arboretum is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Northern Europe.
As the birthplace of important companies such as the Volvo Group and Ericsson, Gothenburg is Sweden's industrial capital. The University of Gothenburg, together with Chalmers University of Technology, is one of the leading centers of science and education in the Nordic countries, with a particular reputation for automotive engineering and maritime research.
Gothenburg is known for its network of canals and green urban spaces, with a streetcar system covering the entire city.
