Blackshear is the county seat of Pierce County in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia, and is located in the coastal plain region of the state, about 120 kilometers from Jacksonville. Named after David Blackshear, a hero of the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in the mid-19th century and now has a population of about 3,500.
Located on the banks of the Satilla River, Blackshear has a humid subtropical climate with warm, humid summers and mild winters. The surrounding area is dominated by forests and farmland, with natural features such as the Okefenokee Swamp, making it ideal for outdoor recreational activities.
The economy is dominated by agriculture (peanuts, cotton) and manufacturing, with logistics growing rapidly in recent years due to its proximity to the interstate highway. The city retains a small-town southern feel, hosts the annual Pierce County Fair, and has the historic Blackhela Railroad Museum, reflecting its status as an early railroad hub.
