Jiuquan is located in the northwestern part of Gansu Province, China, and is an important city in the Hexi Corridor, covering a total area of about 192,000 square kilometers. It has a long history, named after the famous Han general Huo Zaiwei who "poured wine into the spring", and was a key node on the ancient Silk Road.
Jiuquan is famous for its aerospace science and technology, and has China's first satellite launch center, Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, which undertakes a number of national space missions. The economy is dominated by energy, agriculture and tourism, and is rich in wind and photovoltaic energy, as well as specialties such as wolfberries and grapes.
Tourism resources are abundant, including the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes (neighboring), the Great Wall of Jiayuguan, the Crescent Springs of Mingsha Mountain, and other world cultural heritages and natural wonders. The climate is arid with four distinct seasons, suitable for fall travel. The transportation is convenient, connecting the country through Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway and Lianhuo Expressway.
