Located on the Caribbean coast in the southeastern part of the Dominican Republic, La Romana is the country's third largest city and an important port. As the capital of the province of La Romana, the city has a unique blend of culture and natural beauty, with the sugar industry and tourism as the backbone of its economy.
La Romana is located on the Caribbean coastal plain, about 110 kilometers from the capital Santo Domingo. It has a tropical maritime climate, with an average temperature of 27°C throughout the year and a dry season (December to April) with plenty of sunshine, which is the prime season for tourism.
The city is known for its world-class sugar industry, with the largest sugar mill in the Caribbean. Tourism is highly developed, with iconic attractions such as the man-made island of Coconut Island, the Artist Village of Altos de Chavon, and the luxury resort of Casa Campo, which attracts golf and diving enthusiasts.
La Romana is a fusion of Spanish, African and Taino cultures, with local merengue dances and handicrafts. The city has an excellent infrastructure, an international airport and a deep-water harbor, and a permanent population of around 130,000, known for its warm and welcoming people.
