Tongshan District is part of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, located in the northwest of Jiangsu Province, and is a core component of the Xuzhou metropolitan area. As an important expansion area of Xuzhou main city, Tongshan District has a total area of about 1,856 square kilometers and a resident population of about 1.3 million. The area has a long history, named after Tongshan Island in Weishan Lake, and has been an important administrative and economic hub since the Han Dynasty.
Tongshan District has a warm-temperate monsoon climate with a predominantly plain topography, and is rich in agricultural resources, producing rice, wheat and other crops. The industry is dominated by engineering machinery, electronic information, and new energy, and there are several state-level economic and technological development zones. The transportation network is well-developed, with Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, Lianhuo Expressway and other trunk lines running through the whole territory, and only 30 kilometers away from Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport.
The region is rich in cultural and tourism resources, with natural landscapes such as Luliang Mountain Scenic Area and Hangshui Lake, as well as humanistic attractions such as Han Wang Ancient Town and Chu River Han Border Culture Ruins. Tongshan is also a cluster of higher education in Xuzhou, where China University of Mining and Technology and other colleges and universities are located, forming a unique educational and cultural atmosphere.
