Zhangjiajie's most famous scenic area, Wulingyuan, was listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1992. Its quartz sandstone peaks and forests are a geological wonder, with more than 3,000 peaks rising from the ground in various shapes and forms, making it look like a fairyland when surrounded by clouds and mist. The core attractions include Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, Golden Whip Stream and Yellow Stone Village.
Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park attracts global tourists with its Tianmen Cave, glass stacks and cable cars; Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon's glass bridges challenge visitors' guts; and Huanglong Cave and Baofeng Lake showcase the beauty of karst landscapes and lakes. It was the inspiration for the levitating mountain in the movie Avatar.
Zhangjiajie is a multi-ethnic settlement with a rich and colorful culture of the Tujia and Miao ethnic groups. The local biodiversity is extremely high, with many rare plants and animals. All seasons are suitable for visiting, with flowers in the spring and forests in the fall.
