Ash Sharqiyah is an administrative district of the Sultanate of Oman, not a single city, but a vast region located in the eastern part of the country, which is divided into two parts, Ash Sharqiyah North and Ash Sharqiyah South. The region is known for its diverse natural landscapes, including stretches of desert, rugged mountains and a long coastline bordering the Arabian Sea. Historically, Ashhara was an important center of trade and fishing in Oman and has a rich cultural heritage, such as ancient forts and traditional handicrafts.
The Ashhara region has a varied topography, stretching from the coastal plains in the east to the deserts and mountains inland, and has a hot and dry climate, with high temperatures of up to 40°C or more in summer and relatively mild winters. It is home to unique ecosystems, such as the sand dunes of the Wahiba Desert and the Ras Alkins Turtle Sanctuary, which attract eco-tourists.
The economy is based on fishing, agriculture and tourism, with an abundance of dates and fish. Ashhara retains strong Bedouin cultural traditions such as camel racing and hand-woven carpets, making it an ideal place to experience native Omani life. The region is well connected by road to major cities such as Muscat.
