Al Bayda, Libya: a historic city in the Green Mountains
Al Bayda is an important city in northeastern Libya, located in the Green Mountains region (Jabal al Akhdar) at an altitude of about 600 meters. As the capital of the Green Mountain Province, it is known as "the greenest city in Libya" and is famous for its mild Mediterranean climate, rich vegetation and natural beauty.
History and Culture
Baida has a rich history, having been part of the Cyrenaica region during the Hellenistic period, with Roman and Byzantine ruins. The modern city was founded by the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century and later became the summer capital of the Idris dynasty. The city has a unique cultural blend of Arab and Mediterranean features, with traditional bazaars, mosques and colonial architecture intertwined.
Economy and Life
