Minqin: A Sand Sea Oasis in Gansu's Hexi Corridor
Minqin County, belonging to Wuwei City in Gansu Province, is located in the lower reaches of the Shiyang River Basin, at the confluence of the Tengger Desert and the Badanjilin Desert, and is a typical desert oasis county in northwest China. Because of its location at the end of the Shiyang River, Minqin has been known as the "Sand Sea Oasis" since ancient times, and it is an important ecological barrier to prevent the two deserts from merging. The local climate is arid with little rain, plenty of light, and a big temperature difference between day and night, which has bred Minqin honeydew melon, mutton and other specialty agricultural products, of which Minqin honeydew melon is famous for its high sugar content and good taste in the country.
