About Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
Port Stanley is the capital and main settlement of the Falkland Islands, situated on the northeast coast of East Falkland. As the political, economic and cultural center of the Islands, the port city has a population of around 2,500, which makes up the majority of the total Falkland population. History and Location
The Falkland Islands is a British Overseas Territory located in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 500 kilometers off the coast of Argentina. Port Stanley has been the capital since 1845 and has developed historically for whaling and shipping. the port was occupied by Argentine forces during the Anglo-Argentine-Marine War in 1982 and was rebuilt after the war and retains historical sites such as the War Memorial.
