Roxand is the capital of the Exuma District in the Bahamas and is located on the west coast of Great Exuma Island. As an administrative and commercial center, the town attracts visitors with its tranquil seaside scenery and unique Bahamian culture. Its name comes from a local pink sandstone that contrasts with the surrounding turquoise waters.
Roxand is situated on the crystal clear shores of the Caribbean Sea and is surrounded by natural wonders such as world-class dive sites and Piggy Beach. The Mediterranean climate is characterized by year-round sunshine, white sandy beaches and coral reefs that typify the tropical landscape. The nearby waters are home to sea turtles, tropical fish and hammerhead sharks.
Fishing and tourism are the mainstays of the region, and the annual Exuma Island Festival in April showcases traditional music, handicrafts and Junkanoo culture. A cluster of colorful wooden buildings retains colonial architecture, with the Town Hall and St. Mary's Church as iconic historical landmarks.
Visitors can experience bone fishing, conch salad making or take a boat trip to Stocking Island to explore the Blue Hole. The town boasts a number of flavorful restaurants serving fresh seafood, and the convenient ferry service makes it an ideal stopover for a trip around the Exumas.
