Rudput is a major city in the Gauteng province of South Africa, located about 20 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg and is part of the Johannesburg metropolitan area. As a major industrial and economic center of South Africa, the city is known for its mining and manufacturing industries, especially for its historically rich gold resources.
Roodepoort was founded in 1889 and derives its name from the Dutch word for "quiet land". With the discovery of the Witwatersrand gold belt, the city quickly became a mining town. Today, the economy is diversified into manufacturing, logistics and services, with numerous industrial areas and commercial facilities.
The city is situated in the High Steppe region, at an altitude of about 1,700 meters above sea level, with a mild and dry climate. The population of approximately 150,000 is characterized by a multicultural community with a mix of residents of African, European and Asian descent. It is well connected to Pretoria and Johannesburg International Airport via the N1 national highway and rail network.
Roodepoort has excellent community facilities including shopping centers, schools and hospitals. The local area balances industrial development with a residential environment by preserving historical mining sites and developing modern recreational areas such as natural attractions like Roodepute Lake Park.
