Abu Az Zuluf is a small industrial and energy town located in the northeastern coastal region of Qatar, part of the Al Khor Municipality. Located on the Persian Gulf coast, approximately 80 kilometers from the capital city of Doha, the area is known for its significant oil and gas infrastructure. As a key node in Qatar's energy economy, Abu Az-Zuruf is surrounded by processing facilities and export terminals for offshore oil and gas fields, supporting the country's energy export business.
Abu Az-Zuruf is located in an arid desert environment with a hot and dry climate, with summer temperatures often exceeding 40°C. The country's economy is highly dependent on the energy sector. Its economy is highly dependent on the energy sector, with Qatar Petroleum (now Qatar Energy) operating projects here, including crude oil production and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation packages. Despite its small size and lack of tourist attractions, the town is an important link in Qatar's industrial chain, supporting local employment and global energy supply.
The area is predominantly a functional community with a majority of residents working in the energy sector and relatively basic amenities. As Qatar National Vision 2030 advances, Abu Aziz Al Zuruf may benefit from energy technology upgrades and sustainable development projects, but for the time being it remains centered on industrial functions and is not a tourist destination. Its name means "father of the dunes" in Arabic, reflecting the natural topography of the area.
