Kanokupolu is the main town and administrative center of the Vava'u Archipelago in the Kingdom of Tonga, located approximately 240 kilometers north of Nuku'alofa. As the capital of the archipelago, the town serves as the core area for local government offices, the port and commercial activities, and has a population of approximately 3,000.
Situated on the west coast of the main island of Vava'u, Kanokupolu has a natural deep-water harbor and is surrounded by lush hills and coral reefs. Known for its crystal clear waters, abundant marine life and spectacular cliff formations, it is a popular destination for whale watching, diving and sailing.
The town retains its traditional Polynesian culture, with a weekly Saturday market to experience local handicrafts and agricultural products. The economy is based on fishing, tourism and copra exports, and the humpback whale migration season from June to October attracts a large number of international tourists.
Lupepauu Airport connects to the main island of Tonga, and the harbor can accommodate cruise ships and private yachts. Town facilities include hospitals, schools and churches, and the overall atmosphere is tranquil and rustic, reflecting the unique charm of the South Pacific islands.
