Located in Sacabaya National Park in the Oruro Department of western Bolivia, Sacabaya Volcano (Nevado Sajama) is the country's highest peak, at 6,542 meters above sea level, and belongs to the stratified volcanoes of the Andes. The dormant volcano, which last erupted about 3,600 years ago, has year-round snow on its summit, which is covered with vast alpine tundra and is surrounded by hot springs, highland lakes (such as Lake Chanco), and unique wildlife, such as llamas and American ostriches. As the sacred mountain of the Aymara people, Sacabaya is not only a natural laboratory for geological research, but also a popular destination for hiking enthusiasts and eco-tourists, where tourists can experience the breathtaking landscapes of the Andean highlands and indigenous cultures, as well as the purity and mystery of the "Land of the Sky".
