Saint-Marc is the capital of Haiti's West Department, located on the Caribbean coast about 100 kilometers from the capital, Port-au-Prince, and is one of the country's major port cities. As a hub for trade between the north and south of Haiti, the port of Saint-Marc is important to the regional economy as it mainly exports agricultural products such as coffee, sugar and cotton. The city's colorful colonial architecture and waterfront landscape, as well as its local culture, which blends African and French traditions, attracts a small number of tourists each year to explore its unique Caribbean flavor.
