Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar's western Rakhine State, is a port city that combines maritime culture and history, located on the tip of the Irrawaddy River delta and bordering the Bay of Bengal. Once an important trading hub for the ancient "Arakan Kingdom", the city still retains colonial architecture such as old mosques, pagodas and British colonial buildings. The city is famous for its fishing industry, and the surrounding villages make a living from handloom weaving and traditional boat building. The local people are hospitable and maintain unique festivals, such as the annual Rakhine New Year Celebration. The sunsets at Sittodayya are particularly spectacular, and the view of the river and the sea attracts many visitors, making it an excellent place to experience Myanmar's diverse culture and natural beauty.
