Põlva is the capital of Põlva County in southeastern Estonia, located about 30 kilometers south of Lake Chud, near the Estonian-Russian border, and is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the region. With a population of about 10,000, the city's economy is based on agriculture, light industry and small and medium-sized enterprises, and in recent years it has developed eco-tourism based on its natural landscape. The local culture retains the traditional character of Voruma, with folk music, crafts and festivals.
