Nasak is a small settlement on the west coast of Greenland, located on the shores of the Nasakfjord about 50 kilometers south of the capital Nuuk. It belongs to the municipality of Sermersooq and has a permanent population of about 150, making it an ideal destination for experiencing Greenland's traditional Inuit culture.
Surrounded by spectacular icebergs and rugged mountain ranges, Narsaq offers a view of the Midnight Sun in summer and a chance to see the Northern Lights in winter. Due to the influence of the West Greenland Warm Current, the climate is relatively mild, with average temperatures of around -10°C in winter and up to around 10°C in summer.
The local economy is based on fishing and hunting, and is particularly famous for cod and seal fishing. Traditional festivals are held every summer and visitors can experience dog sledding, kayaking and hiking. The Nasak Church, built in 1906, is the community's landmark.
Nasak is connected to Nuuk by helicopter and seasonal boats, and there is no road system. Visitors have a choice of local homestay accommodations, and the best time to travel is from May through September to participate in glacier hiking and whale watching.
