Thongsa is the capital of the Thongsa Dzong in north-central Bhutan, situated in the eastern section of the Himalayas at an altitude of about 2200 meters. The city is famous for its magnificent Thongsa Dzong (castle-like monastery), founded in the 16th century, which was an important administrative and religious center in Bhutan's history.
