Songkhla Dzongkhag is a dzongkhag (administrative division) in eastern Bhutan, located in the eastern Himalayas, with Songkhla as its capital. The region is known for its magnificent mountainous landscape, rich biodiversity and unique cultural heritage. At an altitude of about 1900 meters above sea level, Songkhla Dzongkhag has a mild climate with dense forests and crystal clear rivers, making it one of the important eco-tourism destinations in Bhutan.
Songkhla Dzong retains a strong Buddhist tradition and there are several ancient monasteries within its boundaries, such as Gomtse Monastery and Tashiyan Monastery, which attract pilgrims and tourists. Infrastructure in the Dzongkhag is relatively simple, but is being gradually developed to promote sustainable tourism.
