Rebordões is located in the northern Portuguese region of Santarém, next to Régua, and is one of the gateways to the Douro wine region. Famous for its terraced vineyards, traditional wineries and long winemaking culture, the town takes its name from the Portuguese word for "border" and has historically been an important trading point.
Set within the Douro Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town of République is characterized by spectacular riverside views and stone villages. The 17th-century church of San Pedro, the old stone bridge and the traditional olive oil workshop remain in the area, and the annual grape harvest in the fall attracts many tourists to experience grape stomping.
The economy is centered on the wine industry, which produces port and dry red wines. Visitors can participate in guided tours of wineries, river cruises or explore the nature trails of the Alabida Mountains on foot. About 1.5 hours by car from Porto, it is a popular stopover on the Douro Valley tourist route.
