Nyabisindu is a town in Rwamagana District in the Southern Province of Rwanda, about 50 kilometers south of the capital Kigali. Historically, it served as the early capital of the Kingdom of Rwanda (during the period known as Nyabisindu) and is one of the most important places of Rwandan culture. Famous for its traditional royal sites and historical monuments, the area is surrounded by rolling hills and tea plantations, typical of the Rwandan highlands.
The town is situated in the central highlands of Rwanda, at an altitude of about 1,800 meters above sea level, with a mild and pleasant climate. The economy is mainly based on agriculture, producing tea, coffee and bananas, and it is one of the important tea producing areas in Rwanda. Traditional handicrafts, such as weaving and pottery, have been preserved in the area, while ecotourism is gradually being developed to attract tourists to visit historical sites and natural beauty.
Nyabisindu is home to a number of historical sites from the Rwandan Kingdom period, including the ruins of ancient royal settlements and places of worship. Visitors can experience traditional Rwandan culture, visit local tea plantations, and explore the surrounding hilly landscape on foot.
