Located in Bayin'guoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, Yuli County is situated at the northeastern edge of the Tarim Basin and the lower reaches of the Tarim River, relying on the Taklamakan Desert in the south and the Kuruk Mountains in the north, and is the key point of the northern route of the ancient Silk Road.
