Ziegenhain is a historic town on the banks of the river Schwalm in the German state of Hesse, about 30 kilometers south of the city of Kassel. The town is famous for its well-preserved medieval castle, Ziegenhuisen Castle, which was built in the 13th century as an important fortification and is now open to the public as a museum and event venue. Zykhusen has a typical German countryside, surrounded by fields and forests, and is suitable for hiking and cycling excursions.
Dating back to the Middle Ages, Zykhusen was once the ruling center of the local nobility. The town has many half-timbered houses and old churches, such as St. John's Church, displaying traditional German architecture. Every summer, local folk festivals and markets are organized to attract visitors to experience the local culture. Zykhusen is also known for its agriculture and handicrafts, and is particularly famous for its dairy products and traditional woodworking.
Zykhusen is easily accessible via the federal highway B454 or regional trains, and is about 40 minutes from Kassel Airport. Visitors can focus on visiting Zykhusen Castle, the old town and the surrounding nature park. The town offers a wide range of amenities, homestays and local restaurants for day trips or short stays. As a stop on the Hessian "Fairytale Route", Zykhusen is an ideal destination for exploring the history and nature of central Germany.
