Apartadó is an important city in the Colombian department of Antioquia, located in the northwestern part of the country, near the Panamanian border, in the lowland area along the Gulf of Urabá, with a tropical rainforest climate and high temperatures and rainfall throughout the year. As the economic center of northern Antioquia, its economy is dominated by agriculture, especially famous for bananas, cacao, palm oil and other tropical crops, and is one of the most important banana export bases in Colombia, known as the "banana capital". The city's population is diverse, incorporating local indigenous, European and Afro-descendant cultures, forming a unique folklore. In recent years, with the development of regional trade, Avoletas has emerged as a commercial and logistical hub connecting Colombia's interior with its borders.
