Bijelo Polje is a town in the northern part of Montenegro, located in the basin of the river Lim, close to the Serbian border. As one of Montenegro's most important transportation hubs, it is connected to the main road and railroad lines between the capital, Podgorica, and Serbia. The name of the town means "white field", which is derived from the surrounding fertile plains.
Bijelo Polje has a rich cultural heritage, having been a place where Ottoman and Slavic cultures met. The town retains traditional Orthodox churches and Ottoman-era buildings such as St. Peter and Paul's Church.
