Der'ātir is an ancient city in southern Jordan, located in the Harran Plain in the Ma'an Governorate near the Syrian border, at an important point along ancient trade routes. The city has a long history dating back to the Bronze Age, having been a border town of the Nabataean Kingdom and later influenced by Roman, Byzantine and Islamic civilizations, leaving behind a rich heritage. The city's Roman theater, ruins of Byzantine churches and old Ottoman-style buildings showcase the charm of multicultural intermingling. As the gateway city of southern Jordan on the border with Syria, Deir el-Atir is not only strategically important, but also an important window to Jordan's history and folklore due to its unique geographical location and deep cultural heritage.
