Located in the northern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, between the Tanggula Mountains and the Nyingchi Tanggula Mountains, with an average altitude of more than 4,500 meters, Nagchu is the core area of the Northern Tibetan Plateau, and one of the highest prefectural-level cities in the world. It has a plateau sub-cold monsoon climate with long winters and dry climate. The vast Qiangtang grassland is its iconic landscape, harboring rich wildlife resources such as Tibetan antelope and wild yak. As a purely pastoral region, Nagchu is an important livestock product base in Tibet, with a long history of yak and sheep breeding. The local culture is rich, and traditional festivals such as Tibetan New Year and Horse Racing Festival are unique, especially the Nagchu Horse Racing Festival, which combines horse racing, singing and dancing, and folklore display, and is an important window to show the nomadic culture of Tibetans.
