Rimavska Sobota is a city in southern Slovakia, located on the banks of the Rimava River and belonging to the Banská Bystrica region. It is located near the Slovak-Hungarian border and has a population of about 28,000, making it an important regional center. The city takes its name from the historic Sobota (meaning "Saturday") market and the Rimava region, which is multicultural.
Rimavska Sobota has a rich history, first documented in the 13th century, when it was ruled by the Kingdom of Hungary.
