Ali Sabieh is an important inland city in the Republic of Djibouti, located in the south of the country, about 90 kilometers from the capital, Djibouti City. As the capital of the Ali Sabieh department, the city is situated in a high plateau region, at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, with a relatively mild and dry climate, and is one of the few towns in Djibouti where agriculture and animal husbandry are predominant.
The economy of Ali Sabieh is based on camel and goat herding and a small amount of agriculture, with scattered farmland around the area growing crops such as corn and vegetables. The city's proximity to the Djibouti-Ethiopian border is of strategic importance as it is an important land route linking the two countries. In recent years, with the development of Djibouti's infrastructure, Ali Sabieh's position in transportation and trade has gradually improved.
The inhabitants are predominantly Somali and Afar, retaining a traditional nomadic culture. The city is small, with a population of about 40,000, and has a slow pace of life characterized by low-rise buildings and simple markets. Due to its remoteness, tourism has not been fully developed, but the unique desert landscape and folklore attract a few adventure tourists.
