Alinsar is one of the seven parishes of the Principality of Andorra and is located in the north-west of the country, next to the French and Spanish borders. As the largest parish in Andorra, Alinsal covers an area of about 90 square kilometers, with altitudes ranging from 940 to 2,946 meters above sea level, and a typical alpine landscape of the Pyrenees.
Located in the eastern part of the Pyrenees, Alinsar has cold and snowy winters and cool summers. The parish is crossed by the river Valira and is rich in natural resources with a high forest cover. Its high altitude terrain makes it an important skiing destination for Andorra, with well-known facilities such as the Pall d'Alinsal ski resort.
The economy of Arinsal is dominated by tourism, especially skiing in winter and hiking in summer. The parish retains Romanesque buildings such as the Church of St. Koroma, built in the 12th century, as well as modern tourist facilities. The area is famous for its duty-free shopping and spa treatments, which attract large numbers of European tourists each year.
Alinsar has a population of around 4,000 and the official language is Catalan, with French and Spanish spoken. The area retains its traditional Pyrenean folklore and culture, while taking on a cosmopolitan character thanks to tourism. The town of Alinsal, the capital of the parish, is an important commercial and tourist center in Andorra.
