About Belle Arthur, North Carolina, United States
Belle Arthur (Belhaven) is a town in Beaufort County, North Carolina, United States, located on the state's eastern seaboard adjacent to the Pamlico River. The town covers an area of approximately 2.7 square miles (7 km2) and has a population of approximately 1,500, and is known for its peaceful rural atmosphere and rich natural beauty. Bel-Arthur has a long history, having been founded in 1899 and deriving its name from the Scottish word for "beautiful harbor". The economy is based on fishing, agriculture and tourism, and there are several local parks and marinas for outdoor activities such as boating and fishing. Conveniently connected to neighboring cities via U.S. Highway 264, the state capital of Raleigh is about a three-hour drive away. The town also boasts a number of historic buildings and community events that reflect typical Southern American culture.
