About Reunion La Montagne
Réunion La Montagne is a mountainous community in the municipality of Saint-Denis, in the northwestern part of the French overseas department of Réunion Island, not an independent country. Its name means "mountain" and it is situated on steep slopes between 500 and 1,500 meters above sea level, and is known for its terraced traditional houses and Creole architecture.
Geographical and ecological features
Located on the edge of the Mafat Ice Bucket, this region has a tropical rainforest ecosystem and is an important starting point for hiking through the World Heritage Site of Reunion National Park. The surrounding area is dotted with natural landscapes such as waterfalls and gorges, and is rich in biodiversity.
Culture and Life
The region retains a strong Creole cultural tradition, characterized by vanilla cultivation and traditional handicrafts. The red-roofed and white-walled houses are scattered in the mountains, forming a unique terraced settlement landscape, which is regarded as one of the "most beautiful mountain towns in Reunion".
