The Pitons des Neiges, the highest peak on the French island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean at 3,069 meters above sea level, is a rare example of an active volcano in the world, and together with the nearby Mafat, the "Lava Peak", it forms the core of the Réunion National Park. This dormant volcano, formed around 2 million years ago, is named after the year-round snow that accumulates on its summit ("Neiges" meaning "snow" in French), and is surrounded by the deep Mafat Gorge, the spectacular "Seven Colors" and the 840-meter-high "Seven Colors of the Earth". It is surrounded by the deep Mafat Canyon, the spectacular "Seven Colors of Earth" and the Reunion Falls, the largest waterfall in the Indian Ocean, which reaches a height of 840 meters. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Saint-Rose is not only a challenge for mountaineers, but also an excellent destination for exploring natural evolution and geological wonders due to its unique volcanic ecosystem and tropical rainforest landscape, which perfectly illustrates the ecological charm of Réunion's "natural island".
