Jahau (Ziguinchor) is an important city in southwestern Senegal, located on the banks of the Casamance River, about 450 kilometers from the capital, Dakar. As the capital of the Casamance region, Ziguinchor is one of Senegal's major economic, cultural and transportation hubs.
Located in a tropical region with a humid and rainy climate and an average annual temperature of around 27°C, the city is surrounded by dense mangrove forests and fertile farmland, and the Casamance River provides a rich source of local agriculture and fisheries, producing rice, mango and palm products.
Jahau is known for its multiculturalism and is home to a number of ethnic groups such as Diola and Mandinka. Traditional crafts (such as wood carving and weaving) and lively weekly markets characterize the city. The economy is based on agriculture, fishing and border trade, but in recent years there has been a gradual growth in tourism, attracting visitors to explore its natural beauty and colonial architecture.
Jajau is connected to neighboring Guinea-Bissau by road and river and has a regional airport. As the core city of the Casamance region, Djahou plays an important role in promoting economic and trade cooperation between Senegal and its West African neighbors.
