Furalki is a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province, located in the western part of the Songnen Plain and on the east bank of the middle reaches of the Nenjiang River, at the heart of the Northeast Asian Economic Circle. With a total area of about 375 square kilometers and a population of about 250,000, the region is one of China's important old industrial bases, known for its heavy machinery manufacturing and energy industries.
Fulaerki originated from the Daur language meaning "red riverbank", and was founded in 1898 with the construction of the Middle East Railway. During the First Five-Year Plan period of New China, the key construction of Fulaerki Heavy Machinery Factory (the predecessor of China First Heavy Industry) and Fulaerki Thermal Power Plant laid the foundation for its industrial status, and it is regarded as a "national treasure industrial town". A large number of Soviet-style industrial buildings still remain.
The region has a cold-temperate continental monsoon climate with long and cold winters. The transportation network is well-developed, with the Binzhou Railway and G10 Suiman Expressway passing through the area, and about 40 kilometers from Qiqihar Sanjiajia Airport. The ecological environment in Nenjiang Wetland Nature Reserve is excellent, attracting a large number of migratory birds every year.
There are educational institutions such as the Furalki Campus of Qiqihar University in the precinct, preserving the characteristics of northeastern industrial culture. Places such as Red Bank Park and Jiangqiao War Memorial Site carry deep historical and cultural memories, and industrial heritage tourism development is being actively promoted in recent years.
