Magdalena Ocotlán is a municipality and administrative center of the same name in the central state of Oaxaca, Mexico, located about 460 km southeast of the capital, Mexico City. Located in the fertile Ocotlán Valley, at an altitude of about 1,500 meters above sea level, the region is known for its agriculture and traditional handicrafts, and is surrounded by a dry mountainous landscape.
As an important area for Zapotec culture, Magdalena Ocotlán retains a rich indigenous tradition, and the Zapotec language is mostly spoken by the local population.
