Port Sudan is an important port city in northeastern Sudan, located on the west coast of the Red Sea, and is the second largest city in Sudan and its main access to the sea, as well as a key hub connecting inland and international trade. Founded in 1905, the port has deep-water facilities and handles about 90% of Sudan's imports and exports, including oil, cotton, gum arabic and agricultural products, and imports of manufactured goods and machinery. The city's economy is based on port trade, fishing, oil refining and light industry, and its strategic location makes it an important logistics node in the Red Sea region. The climate in Port Sudan is hot and dry, with high temperatures of up to 40°C in summer and mild winters, with an average annual precipitation of less than 200 millimeters. As Sudan's gateway to the world, the city plays an irreplaceable role in the regional economy.
