Taitung is located in the southeastern part of Taiwan, China, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the east, and is the third largest county in Taiwan. The terrain is dominated by high mountains, longitudinal valleys and coastlines, and it boasts natural landscapes such as the Taimali Golden Needle Mountains, Green Island and Orchid Island. With a population of about 210,000, Taitung County is the most well-preserved area of Taiwan's aboriginal culture, with rich and diverse traditional cultures of the Amis, Bunun, and other ethnic groups.
Taitung boasts diverse natural landscapes, including famous scenic spots such as Chihpen Hot Springs, Sanxiantai, and Baxian Cave. The eastern coastline is 231 kilometers long, rich in coral reef ecology, and the waters around Green Island and Orchid Island have been classified as marine protected areas. The longitudinal valley plains produce high-quality rice, sakura and other agricultural products, and the annual hot air balloon carnival attracts a large number of tourists.
Taitung retains a strong indigenous culture, and the annual Harvest Festival held in July and August is an important celebration. The Tihua Village Music Settlement and the Taiwan Prehistoric Culture Museum showcase local art and history. Transportation has become more convenient with the improvement of the Nanhui Highway, and Taitung Airport offers flights to and from Taipei and Kaohsiung, making it an important destination for eco-tourism and cultural experiences.
